"American jurist, publicist, and philanthropist; born at Hinzweiler, Bavaria, October 28, 1836; emigrated to the United States in 1848 and settled as a merchant at Ulrichsville, Ohio. He studied law at the Ohio Law College, Cleveland, and was admitted to the bar at Mount Vernon, Ohio, in 1861.
